Summer break over here and back at it. July 20th top 40 for you. Since our last foray into the chart last month there have been many inclusions, DJ Khaled and yep “another one” and then shouting his name, how original. Sigala, Major LAzer and Calvin Harris are making good impressions on the chart. Camila Cabello has entered the top 20 for the first time as a solo concern, and new ones from Jax Jones, Zedd ft Liam Payne and Ke$ha.

We have new entries in the album chart from Jay-Z and HAIM, as well as the re-release of “OK Computer” by Radiohead. Flashbacks to 17 years ago and beyond, as well as the top 20 singles all getting a wee blast here and there. Enjoy!

A delve back to the eighties for some spectacular songs that will fill your memory banks. We have some Alexander O’ Neal, Blancmange, Neil Diamond, The Ramones, Sabrina is in there with her summer classic “Boys (Summertime Love)" plus there’s some Shakin’ Stevens and Kylie Minogue (It keeps some of us happy)

We will be playing your eight from the eighties this week and some great choices therein. Christopher Cross, Kim Carnes and Styx just to name some in that line up. If you are from Texas. It could be your 8 from the 80s we are playing. There is some Cher, Laura Branigan, The Jam and China Crisis too, all within the confines of this edition of Cheesy 80s Songs You Love. Enjoy!

A little bit later with your chart show this week, you know how it is, life takes over. I have been organising Theresa May’s leaving party, which we should be having anytime now. If you need a giggle, just follow British politics best laugh you’ve had in months, guaranteed. Soooo chartbound are, Oasis after a big long absence {don’t get too excited it’s nothing new} but at least you got new Liam Gallagher to make up for that disappointment.

Also there is a great deal happening on the album chart, in fact, it’s almost taken over this week. Former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello takes herself into the 40 with “Crying in The Club”. Niall takes a storm up; as does Ariana. The One Love Manchester concert has made headway in the singles chart too. Flashbacks from the eighties and 2014. It’s all happening here in the lifestyle of a superstar DJ, such as myself. Who is this pretender to the throne, Calvin Harris anyway? Enjoy!

Liam Payne shot straight in at number three with his debut solo single is he taking the top spot this week from Beiber and friends? The album chart this week sees the return of Glory Days from Little Mix, a new one in Different Days from The Charlatans and a fifty year old album makes a welcome return. We flashback to 1993 and 2013.

Theresa May even gets a mention in this week’s chart (and not in a good way, but I am all good with that) there’s climbers from Niall, Jonas Blue, and Maggie Lindemann. High new entries expected from Little Mix and Rita Ora, how high and is there a new number one? All this and more to be answered, two hours of this week’s chart, with the entire top 20 and lots more besides.

A few that may have escaped your notice but are typically eighties from Pointer Sisters, Robert Palmer, Jeffrey Osborne and Squeeze. We play your eight of the eighties and a bit of banter in there too, just because I can. Enjoy!

I am taking you back 33 years, yes that’s how old you are, to 1984. Style Council, Howard Jones, The Smiths. Some lost in the wilderness bands like Break Machine or Bronski Beat yes the eighties were cheesier than a double whopper with extra cheese, and that’s a lot of cheese, not really good for you know, you really gotta cut that shit out and eat some more healthy shit.

Anyway, the music Wham! Check, Duran Duran, Check, Status Quo Check, Gene Vincent Check, … wait a minute… Gene Vincent? Ohhhh he’s in the album chart section, check, a bit of Pointer Sisters, Sister Sledge, Madness, OMD, Phil Collins and Bob Marley. Download it live it.. breathe it… beeee it.

Through The Music - UB40

The story of UB40 has been a prominent one from day one. The politics, the music, the break-ups, the makeups, the splits, the replacements (that didn’t work out). But none of that is relevant apart from what is disclosed in their own writing. Through The Music.

They first caught our attention with hits like “My Way Of Thinking”, “Food For Thought”, “The Earth Dies Screaming” through to the biggest period with number ones in the eighties and nineties, cover versions that they seem to do so well. Here are thirty handpicked gems from the greatest Reggae Fusion band there is, and a few extras in there too. Enjoy! 
